Sugaring During Pregnancy: What to Know Before You Book

Gentle hair removal for changing bodies — and growing confidence.

Pregnancy brings many changes — to your body, your skin, and your self-care routine. For many expecting clients, sugaring remains a preferred hair removal option thanks to its natural ingredients and gentle technique.

At Sugaring Change, with studios in Port Moody and Maple Ridge, we regularly work with pregnant clients and understand that comfort, flexibility, and extra care matter more than ever — especially when it comes to Brazilian sugaring.

Is Sugaring Safe During Pregnancy?

For most people, sugaring is considered a safe hair removal option during pregnancy, particularly when performed by a trained professional using clean, natural ingredients.

Sugaring paste is made from just sugar, lemon, and water — no resins, chemicals, or synthetic fragrances. Because the paste adheres to hair rather than live skin, many clients find it gentler than waxing, which can be especially important as skin becomes more sensitive during pregnancy.

As always, we recommend checking with your healthcare provider if you have specific medical concerns or a high-risk pregnancy.

Why Many Pregnant Clients Choose Sugaring

As pregnancy progresses, shaving can become difficult, uncomfortable, or even unsafe — especially as your belly grows. Sugaring offers several benefits that appeal to expecting clients:

  • Natural, minimal ingredients

  • Gentle removal suitable for sensitive skin

  • Less irritation than traditional waxing

  • Longer-lasting smoothness than shaving

  • No blades or daily or weekly maintenance

For many clients, sugaring becomes a practical and confidence-boosting part of pregnancy self-care.

Brazilian Sugaring During Pregnancy

Brazilian sugaring is a popular choice during pregnancy, including in the later stages, for very practical reasons. As visibility and flexibility become more limited, professional hair removal can feel far more comfortable than at-home alternatives.

To better support expecting clients, we offer a dedicated Prenatal Brazilian Sugaring service at both our Port Moody and Maple Ridge locations.

Our Prenatal Brazilian Sugaring Service

Our Prenatal Brazilian appointment is thoughtfully designed with pregnancy comfort in mind.

This service is booked for 45 minutes, allowing extra time to:

  • Take breaks as needed

  • Reposition comfortably throughout the service

  • Use additional pillows for support

  • Move at a slower, more mindful pace

  • Provide extra care for very sensitive skin

The additional time ensures that your sugarist never needs to rush and can fully focus on your comfort, communication, and skin’s needs — especially important as sensitivity can increase later in pregnancy.

If you’re expecting, we strongly recommend booking the Prenatal Brazilian rather than a standard Brazilian service, so we can offer the highest level of care and flexibility.

What’s Different During Pregnancy?

Your body may respond differently to sugaring while pregnant, and that’s completely normal.

Increased Sensitivity

Hormonal changes can make skin more sensitive, particularly during Brazilian services. Extra time and a gentle approach help manage this comfortably.

Increased Blood Flow

Increased circulation during pregnancy may cause more redness or sensitivity post-treatment, which typically resolves quickly.

Comfort & Positioning

Lying flat for extended periods can be uncomfortable later in pregnancy. Our sugarists adjust positioning, provide pillows, and encourage breaks throughout your appointment.

Tips for a More Comfortable Pregnancy Sugaring Appointment

To help your appointment go smoothly:

  • Book the Prenatal Brazilian service if applicable

  • Eat beforehand to avoid lightheadedness

  • Stay hydrated

  • Communicate openly about comfort or sensitivity

  • Wear loose, breathable clothing afterward

Your comfort always comes first.

A Judgment-Free, Supportive Space

Pregnancy bodies change — and that’s normal. At Sugaring Change, we provide a judgment-free, body-positive environment where you’re welcomed exactly as you are. Whether this is your first prenatal Brazilian or you’ve been sugaring throughout your pregnancy, our goal is to make you feel safe, supported, and cared for.

Listening to Your Body Matters Most

Sugaring during pregnancy is a personal choice. Some clients continue Brazilian sugaring throughout their entire pregnancy, while others adjust services or take breaks. There’s no single right answer — only what feels right for you.

If you have questions before booking, our team is always happy to help guide you.
