Sugaring VS Waxing

SUGAR VS WAX

Are you new to hair removal or a seasoned waxer? Either way you may be curious about how sugaring compares to what you know about or have experienced with waxing. There are some similarities but there are some very critical differences that make sugaring the best choice for hair removal.

THE MIX

Sugaring is the oldest form of hair removal. We are talking thousands of years old! There are only three ingredients to making sugar paste, sugar, water and lemon juice. Wax on the other hand is made with a mix of ingredients that are derived from the petroleum manufacturing process. Not great for the environment and iffy for the skin.

THE APPLICATION

Both are applied to the skin and remove hair from the follicle. Wax must be heated to be applied to the skin which can cause burns while sugar is applied at body temperature and will NEVER burn your skin. Wax also sticks to just about anything and that includes your skin which can cause tearing. Sugar can only stick to dead skin and hair and will not tear the skin.

Wax is applied in the direction of hair growth and pulled off against which can cause breakage to the hair, while sugar is applied against the direction of growth and removed in the direction the hair grows which stops breakage.

THE REQUIREMENTS

Possibly the best thing about sugaring is the length your hair has to be to have a service. Waxing requires a 1/4 inch of growth, but sugaring only needs an 1/8th of an inch. This means you don't have to wait as long in between appointments and when you are able to remove hair at that shorter length you increase your chances of capturing it during its growth cycle. When hair is removed while it still has its blood supply you collapse the follicle wall and that hair cannot grow again. This results in a reduction in density over time!

All this to say that sugaring is the best and gentlest way to remove unwanted hair. We love it and we know you will too!
